Are Free Night Calls Demonic?

Yikes, according to a fellow Ghanaian Pastor they are. Omg are you kidding me?! Alright, hear me out: I’m not here to say he’s wrong or doesn’t hear from God. Let’s rub minds together on this one. As a young Christian like most of you are, I am baffled by the assumption that placing free outgoing calls at night might endanger another soul and mine too for that matter. I won’t repeat the whole article but you can read it here. Others were quick to laugh and dismiss his teaching, however, I do say, with some conviction, that certain Free Night Calls expose you to spiritual dangers that luck around dark alleys; your mind. For more on why the mind is a dark alley, read this.

We need to exercise caution when it comes to decoding Preachers’ words and engaging in selective quotation. On that note, I won’t comment on his statement that “when one enters the toilet or the bathroom, the angels wait at the door because toilets are dirty.” This is where wisdom comes into play. 1)The bible says ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. 2)Understand that God can let you go through series of deserved punishment and you might go through a period of drought (more on this later). Remember how the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul. If this pastor was being figurative with his statement I’m thinking this is what he meant. Oops, I commented! 3)Know also that “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight” (Proverbs 11:1). Now that you have spiritually conditioned your minds, read on.

For those who feel that the “free” calls have been unjustly criticized, the problem is not with the free calls. Herein lies the problem; a lure was created. A bait was put on the hook to entice telecom subscribers to take advantage of the offer, and like many free things in life, you tend to talk unholy and unrestrained because it is free. In fact, according to the article, some commercials have described the service as “the night is sweet.” There are many issues that

dent Free Night Calls and one of them is sexual promiscuity. There are so many ads on TV these days that promise you “satisfaction” for placing sexually explicit calls, feeding your unholy desires over the phone. Of course there are adverse effects on morals but the spiritual effects have been glossed over too many times. So, what is the big deal about Free Night Calls?

Issue #1: Darkness is necessary for evil doers.

When I was young my mother kept “playing” schedules for the kids, stricter ones for females. Once it was 6:30pm, all activities outside the home was suspended till the following day. Only on rare occasions were we allowed to go outside, and when we did, it was to purchase candles and match boxes…after a 2 minute crash course in self-defense.

The reason for this fuss about caution is because a weakness has been identified, a vulnerability has been exposed, and if care isn’t taken, the weak and female child will be attacked. Darkness hides unholy and illegal activities. Robbers, kidnappers, and queens of the night record higher crime success rates at night because victims are unsuspecting.

Darkness has never symbolized anything good, literally or spiritually. There is nothing flattering about darkness. I can tell you God ain’t too hot about darkness. When the earth was without form and void and was dark, His first words were “Let there be Light.” He saw that the Light He created was good, and He separated the light from darkness. As a matter of fact, darkness is a form of punishment meant for evil doers. Moses stretched out his hand and there was darkness in the land of Egypt for three days. The book of Isaiah talks about the darkening of the sun and constellations because the Lord will punish the world for their evil (Isaiah 13:10-11).

Issue #2: Demons can tap into people’s conversions.

One of the many purposes of the scripture is to guide us, empower us, and, this is vital, reveal privileged information to us, His people. Let me explain: one night when little Samuel was lying down, the Lord called out to him and on the third time, at Eli’s instruction, he answered “Speak, for your servant is listening.” When you set aside a quiet place and time to meditate on the scriptures daily the Lord will speak to you and reveal secret things to you! Even colleges enforce quiet hours in residence halls for study.

sorry batman, this picture fits this post

Problem is, these quiet hours are work hours for the enemy. Kid yourself not: demons are certified research assistants for the devil. The bible tells us to be sober-minded and be watchful, for our adversary the devil prowls like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Due to this “seeking” nature, the activities of the enemy are intensified at night when most people are expected to be resting/sleeping. For this reason, we need to exercise caution during these hours when discussing topics that are destiny changers. Remember that when the sons of God went to present themselves before God the devil himself was present! (Job 1:6) This was his answer when God asked him where he was coming from: “From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.” If this is true then it gives credence to the statement that during Free Night Calls, there are some spiritual beings that do eavesdrop on conversations.

I’m not done studying why FNCs are detrimental to our spiritual health but you are welcome to leave your thoughts below. Are Free Night Calls demonic? I’m listening!

  1. Nicely said mostly. My take on this whole issue is this… the free calls attract more people to not sleep or not do what they would normally do and go on the phone sinstead and you are correct, it promotes promiscuity as well. Plus.. time that could be spent with God praying or even resting for the next day is spent filling our heads with in most cases conversations that are not necessary. As for demons working at night… i think demons are always at work, not just at night so even if you yarn morning afternoon or night they are at work. Not having conversations at night wont be the only way to save us from this…

    • Demons are always at work, thanks for that! If I summarize your points correctly night calls deprive us of so many things, not just spiritually. I’m surprised most people didn’t reason like this when the the Pastor declared night calls demonic. I remember when I used to stay up late at night for MTN calls, lol! I bet lots of guys who didn’t want to spend money talking to girls wait till midnight only to start promising riches and some lovin’, ha! :D

  2. I read the article and regardless of what was said, the first thing that comes to mind is “who calls a person after midnight and for what reason?”. Anytime from midnight to 6am are considered the witching hours. If you notice on TV, the late night calls are typically of an illicit activity. Who in their ‘right minds’ calls somebody to talk about things they could have talked about in the day if the intention was to engage in wholesome talk? I think that if anybody calls me at night it would either be an emergency or an international call due to different time zones…but for any other reason, stuff like that can wait till the morning. People are not as alert and sharp at night as they are in the day for a reason. Some people run the risk of making transactions/promises or contracts at night that they know they wouldn’t have made had the call come during the day because at night people tend to be tired and not as sharp and alert as they would be when it’s daytime. Why put yourself in such a compromising position that leaves room for regret. Do things in the day. The whole gimmick that it’s free using the “It’s sweet at night” tagline rings many bells in my books. Not everything that is free in life is good for you. Some “free” things usually have a “cost” written in the fine details that people don’t seem to read as they run for the free stuff. It’s interesting to me that people can stay awake to call somebody to most likely engage in idle talk but when it comes to intercession during these same witching hours where we are taught to command our mornings…people fall asleep? As a Christian, if I’m ever going to make a night call, it’s going to be on the intercessory line not this free gimmick line that subtly promotes people to engage in idle chatter. I doubt any wholesome talk can be transacted as such ungodly hours of the night…notice how people often refer to such hours as “ungodly hours”…there is a reason. So…the way I see it…as an intercessor myself. it’s better to pray at night rather than engage in idle chatter that opens up avenues to make deals or spiritual agreements with people you engage in through such idle chatter when your guard is low and not sharp. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean you should take it. People need to learn the meaning of prudence. And ask the first basic question to this promotion.. for what reason would you call someone as such an ungodly hour? Pyschic hotlines, sexlines are always open at those hours and you wonder why??? people must think before they leap.
    That’s just my two cents on this situation. what do you think Margaret?
    Sherline :D

    • *Back from work* Let me laugh first: Hahahahahaha :D
      ““who calls a person after midnight and for what reason?” You are absolutely right. In fact, I should erase my post and make your comment a blog post! I still wanna know why the Pastor thinks one would go mad when you blah blah blah at night. Just plain old curiosity…I’ll search for biblical evidence if I have to. And if I find nothing, well, I’ll add this thought to my list of “Who knows.” Lol :D

  3. I was about to dismiss him, until I read the article in its entirety and, I do agree with him on only ONE issue. Demons are very much active during the night, and from first hand knowledge and experience-not with them, but knowing someone who practiced witchcraft and was knighted into the highest ranks of wizardry, everyday without fail at three in the morn, they engaged in Satanic activities. (Harry Porter is a joke)

    As far as free nights calling are concerned, in as much as those demons are tapped into your conversation, if you are a believer, you should be armed at all times, and covered in the blood of the Lamb to ward them off. Now, say I have a boo thang, this man is suggesting that we do not talk late night, because, as I understood, sin (sex) is going to happen through a phone. ABEG! Again, to suggest the act only happens during the night. Who told him that conversations that happen at that hour, are only sexual AND in any case, where in the Bible is it written that it is wrong to engage in sexual debate?! Nah. sometimes, we need to question thoroughly these preachers. That part did NOT make any sense to me, at all!!

    • African Queen, you sound like you are bout to fight with the demons! Lol :D You make a good point here about the times and the Harry Porter reference (I haven’t seen any of the movies, maybe some snippets). I do wonder what if he directed his message towards specific people, because his preaching sounds like a warning to young people. I’m still wondering why he said the angels wait outside when you go to the bathroom…and the point about running mad. I’m still researching on that, lol :D

  4. HI ALL IS MORNDAY ,,,WE THANK YOU FATHER FOR A NEW DAY……
    Psalm 27 (NKJV)

    27 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    Whom shall I fear?
    The Lord is the strength of my life;
    Of whom shall I be afraid?
    2 When the wicked came against me
    To eat up my flesh,
    My enemies and foes,
    They stumbled and fell.
    3 Though an army may encamp against me,
    My heart shall not fear;
    Though war may rise against me,
    In this I will be confident.

    4 One thing I have desired of the Lord,
    That will I seek:
    That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    All the days of my life,
    To behold the beauty of the Lord,
    And to inquire in His temple.
    5 For in the time of trouble
    He shall hide me in His pavilion;
    In the secret place of His tabernacle
    He shall hide me;
    He shall set me high upon a rock.

    6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;
    Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
    I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

    7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!
    Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
    8 When You said, “Seek My face,”
    My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
    9 Do not hide Your face from me;
    Do not turn Your servant away in anger;
    You have been my help;
    Do not leave me nor forsake me,
    O God of my salvation.
    10 When my father and my mother forsake me,
    Then the Lord will take care of me.

    11 Teach me Your way, O Lord,
    And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
    12 Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries;
    For false witnesses have risen against me,
    And such as breathe out violence.
    13 I would have lost heart, unless I had believed
    That I would see the goodness of the Lord
    In the land of the living.

    14 Wait on the Lord;
    Be of good courage,
    And He shall strengthen your heart;
    Wait, I say, on the Lord
    …….

    • Wow sisdot56! This is such an awesome weapon against the enemy! This definitely comes in handy in this situation. God has not given us the spirit of timidity but of power…power to speak against demonic attacks! “The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?…” Thanks for the psalm! :)

  5. These are the kinds of preaching that discourage people from knowing God. I can’t determine whether he is right or wrong in saying midnight calls are evil however he seems to be overly sure about these things which is what baffles me. How can he explain to an unbeliever why these things are evil without pushing them away…
    the manner of preaching in itself is what I do not agree with.

  6. Woah, scares me now that Im international Im using magic jack internet phone line to talk with my family. With the 9 hour time difference, calls must be placed at night. Back in 2006 I received a very demonic call on my cell during the day…..I’ll never forget.

    • Wow scary! I would’ve frozen were I in your shoes. Glad you were able to come out of the situation unscathed, emotionally or physically. But as people of God we gotta remember that He has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). The next time (I hope not but only if there’s a next time, haha) just rebuke it firmly in Jesus name! Thanks for sharing, Jeni! :)
